Market Positioning of Remanufactured Products With Optimal Planning for Part Upgrades

چکیده
In a market with rapid changes in technology and customer preferences, technological obsolescence of end-of-life products poses a significant challenge to product recovery. Remanufacturing with optimal part upgrades can be a promising solution for overcoming the obsolescence. This paper proposes a model for positioning a remanufactured product. By considering original product design, target market (i.e., customer preferences and competing products), and recovery economics, the model helps to find optimal specifications and the selling price of a remanufactured product at which maximum remanufacturing profit is expected. Two versions of the model are presented under different assumptions on product takeback. The first model assumes that the remanufacturer passively accepts all returns without paying any financial incentives. The second model assumes that the remanufacturer buys back end-of-life products so as to control the quality and quantity of returns. The two models are illustrated with the example of a desktop computer. [DOI: 10.1115/1.4023000]

Models to explore remanufacturing as a competitive strategy under duopoly ¬リニ
Remanufacturing is a product recovery option that upgrades the quality of returns to “as-good-as-new” conditions. Remanufactured products cost less, and are sold with the same or better warranty as for new products. In this paper, we consider a duopoly environment with two manufacturers in direct competition selling their respective new products on the primary market. Specifically, we address t...
متن کاملGreen profit maximization through integrated pricing and production planning for a line of new and remanufactured products
To achieve a “green profit” in their businesses, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) who produce both new and remanufactured products must optimize their pricing and production decisions. They must determine the buyback price and takeback quantity of end-of-life products (i.e., supply) as well as the selling prices and production quantities of new and remanufactured products (i.e., demand)....
متن کاملManaging new and differentiated remanufactured products
We study a firm that makes new products in the first period and uses returned cores to make remanufactured products (along with new products) in future periods. The remanufactured product is differentiated from the new product, so the firm needs to choose differentiated prices. We analyze the monopoly environment in two-period, multi-period (three, four and five) and infinite planning horizons,...

In today’s global environment, technology is constantly evolving. Being able to stay up-to-date with the very latest technological advances can be extremely hard to accomplish. As a result of these changes and developments in technology, which often come unexpectedly, consumers are frequently tempted to update their devices to the very latest model. The result is that the life cycle of a produc...
متن کاملQuantitative models for determining prices in a remanufacturing system with exclusive and competitive market structure
Remanufacturing is an industrial process that makes used products reusable. Remanufacturing is a way to establish a closed-loop supply chain. One of the important aspects in both reverse logistics and remanufacturing is pricing of returned and remanufactured products (called cores) that it has been noticed in this paper. In addition, in this paper the researchers have tried to present a mathema...
